“AC” 100-240 VAC, 47-63 Hz

“DC” 10-36 VDC

A & M

Analog Output Options

(-y)

Provides the user with a range of analog output options. User may select one or more output options:

“-1” 0-10 VDC analog output standard

“-2” 0-5 VDC analog output optional

“-A” Standard 4-20 ma current loop option with single-ended configuration. Operates over loop resistance up to 500 ohms.

“-B” Isolated 4-20 ma current loop option for installations prone to ground loops. Operates over loop resistance up to 500 ohms.

“-C” Control relay output #1 with user selectable activate/deactivate set points. SPDT relay provides NO & NC dry contacts rated for 100 VDC @ 0.25A.

“-D” Diagnostic relay output provides remote indication of sensor status. SPDT relay provides NO & NC dry contacts rated for 100 VDC @ 0.25A.

“-E” Control relay output #2 with user selectable activate/deactivate set points. SPDT relay provides NO & NC dry contacts rated for 100 VDC @ 0.25A.

A

Serial Output Options

(-y)

Provides the Sentry™ with a powerful microprocessor to perform user selected averaging, alarms, units of measure, calibration, etc. User may select one options from the list below:

“-MA” Serial ASCII RS-232 interface for distances up to 100 ft

“-MB” Serial ASCII RS-422 interface for distances up to 4000 ft

”-MF” Serial ASCII Multidrop Addressable RS-485 interface for distances up to 4000 ft

Note - To add a control or diagnostic relay to the serial output option, add the character “C” for control relay, “D” for diagnostic relay, or “CD” for both relays to the end of the serial option ordering code. For example, “-MAC” is the ordering code for a Sentry with RS-232 output and a control relay.

“Add “-H” to Sentry Model Number”

External hood heaters help prevent blowing snow from clogging optics. The heaters are 25 W each for AC powered sensors and 6 W each for 12 VDC powered sensors. Thermostatically controlled to turn on at ~3o C and off at ~ 8o C.

The Sentry™ Calibration Fixture (PDF)

Used to verify the SVS1 Sentry™ sensor calibration as part of field installation and during the recommended 6 month preventative maintenance. One Calibration Fixture can be shared between several Sentry™ Visibility Sensors. It is noted that the use of a Calibration fixture to install and maintain the Sentry™ is not an optional accessory.

The Calibration Fixture consists of rugged foam-lined Attaché Case that protects and organizes the following items:

  • Light Block for checking the sensor zero

  • Neutral Density (ND) Filter for checking the sensor span

  • Scatter Plate used in conjunction with the ND Filter for checking the sensor span

  • Mounting hardware for attaching the Scatter Plate to the mounting studs on the back of the Main Electronics Enclosure.

The P/N 20014 Mounting Bracket (PDF)

An optional accessory used to mount the SVS1 Sentry Visibility Sensor with standard 1-1/2” mounting flange. It is designed to provide a durable, vibration-free installation of the Sentry and can be installed against a flat wall, traffic pole, or typical Rohn type tower leg. The design allows the Sentry to be rotated to the optimal orientation.

Key Features include:

  • High strength aluminum alloy

  • Black powder coat finish for long term weather resistance

  • 1-1/2” pipe size to mate perfectly with standard Sentry mounting flange

  • Weight: 1.1 kg (2.5 lbs)

A & M

The P/N 20016
Hood Extensions

Sentry Hood Extensions slip over the existing sensor hoods to provide additional protection from heavily contaminated air found at some sites. Typical applications include:

  • Road & bridge sites where sensor is <10m from the edge of the roadway
  • Coastal & maritime areas subject to blowing salt spray
  • Areas with heavy industrial pollution

Includes a set of 2 extensions that are easily installed and removable for sensor calibration with a screwdriver.

The Sentry™ Photometer (PDF)

Used to measure ambient background light. The photometer is typically used for airport weather AWOS systems. Algorithms in the Sentry™ Visibility Sensor automatically convert extinction coefficient to visibility using Koschmeider’s Law during the day and Allard’s Law at night.

In accordance with FAA AWOS requirements, the photometer indicates day for increasing illumination between 0.5 and 3 foot-candles (FC) and night for decreasing illumination between 3 and 0.5 FC. When configured with the photometer, the Sentry™ Visibility Sensor serial output data string includes the ambient light intensity in units of LUX as well as “D” for day and “N” for light.

Key Features include:

  • Full range spectral response

  • Interfaces to Sentry™ equipped with microprocessor option

  • Adjustable mounting hardware supplied

  • Anti-dew heater to keep window clear of condensation

The XBee-PRO RS-232 RF Modem (PDF)

An IEEE 802.15.4 compliant solution that features an RS-232 or optional USB interface. Out-of-box, the modem is equipped to sustain outstanding range (2-3x the range of typical 802.15.4 solutions) and requires no additional configuration for immediate RF communications. Simply feed data into one modem, then the data is sent out the other end of the wireless link. The modem transfers a standard asynchronous serial data stream between two or more devices and is designed for rapid integration into existing data systems. Included is X-CTU software for configuring and testing XBee-PRO radio modems.

Key Features include:

  • Indoor/urban Range: up to 300’ (100 m)

  • Outdoor line-of-sight Range: up to 1 mile (1.6 km)(*)

  • Transmit Power Output: 100 mW (20 dBm) EIRP

  • Operating Frequency: 2.4 GHz

  • Receiver Sensitivity: -100 dBm

  • RS-232 or optional USB interface

  • Economic, reliable alternative to wired communications
